SUMMARY:IOHA Webinar: crystalline silica exposure and prevention worldwide
DESCRIPTION:Join IOHA for a global look at crystalline silica exposure and
the innovative practices shaping prevention efforts worldwide.\n\nThe webi
nar will highlight South Africa’s 20-year journey to reduce and eliminat
e respirable crystalline silica exposure – driven by strengthened regula
 tions\, advanced dust-control technologies\, industry collaboration\, and
robust worker education initiatives. These coordinated efforts have led to
dramatic reductions in dust levels and silicosis cases\, offering valuabl
e lessons for mining and industrial sectors everywhere while underscoring
the need for continued vigilance.\n\nParticipants will also explore practi
cal tools and methods that support more efficient and proactive risk manag
ement from research out of Australia. Participants will learn about a port
able\, validated system for generating dust to support pre-work risk asses
sments and the calibration of portable FTIR instruments for silica measure
ment. The session will discuss how this research reinforces the need for b
est practices when using real-time dust monitors. In addition\, attendees
will be introduced to OHCOW’s Silica Control Tool™ from Canada: an evi
dence-based\, user-friendly platform that helps workplaces assess tasks\,
estimate exposures\, and select appropriate controls – empowering occupa
tional hygienists and safety professionals to make faster\, more informed
decisions that protect workers' health.\n\nThis webinar is complimentary t
o all members of IOHA Associations.
