Join IOHA for a global look at crystalline silica exposure and the innovative practices shaping prevention efforts worldwide.
The webinar will highlight South Africa’s 20-year journey to reduce and eliminate respirable crystalline silica exposure – driven by strengthened regulations, advanced dust-control technologies, industry collaboration, and robust worker education initiatives. These coordinated efforts have led to dramatic reductions in dust levels and silicosis cases, offering valuable lessons for mining and industrial sectors everywhere while underscoring the need for continued vigilance.
Participants will also explore practical tools and methods that support more efficient and proactive risk management from research out of Australia. Participants will learn about a portable, validated system for generating dust to support pre-work risk assessments and the calibration of portable FTIR instruments for silica measurement. The session will discuss how this research reinforces the need for best practices when using real-time dust monitors. In addition, attendees will be introduced to OHCOW’s Silica Control Tool™ from Canada: an evidence-based, user-friendly platform that helps workplaces assess tasks, estimate exposures, and select appropriate controls – empowering occupational hygienists and safety professionals to make faster, more informed decisions that protect workers’ health.
This webinar is complimentary to all members of IOHA Associations.
