    Code of Ethics

    The Code of Ethics is described in detail in the association’s statutes, which you can find below. This Code of Ethics comprises the following six chapters:

    1. Responsibility towards the profession (principle of this responsibility).
    2. Responsibility towards oneself and others (objective of this responsibility).
    3. Responsibility towards employees (protection of the health and well-being of employees).
    4. Responsibility towards employees and customers (basis for relationships with them).
    5. Responsibility towards the public and the environment (impact of decisions on public health and the environment).
    6. Responsibility towards the community (how to deal with conflicts of interest)

    Becoming a member

    The SSOH is open to occupational hygienists and to all persons whose profession is at least partly related to occupational hygiene. All members of the SSOH are individual members (no corporate membership). To apply for membership, please fill in the form (German or French) and send it to info@sgah.ch.

    Request recognition

    If you have completed university training in occupational hygiene abroad, you can have it recognised in Switzerland by going through our recognition process.

    To do this, you can submit an application for an assessment of your basic training. This assessment will determine whether you have attended enough accredited courses to fulfil the requirements of the Ordinance on the Aptitude of Occupational Safety Specialists (EQualV; SR 822.116 national languages) or, if this is not the case, we will suggest additional courses to close the gaps.

    Specialists who have been trained abroad must in any case complete an introductory course in Swiss legislation on occupational safety in accordance with Art. 2 para. 4 EQualV.

    Further information: FCOS – Occupational safety specialists (national languages).

    If you have a certificate as an occupational hygienist accredited in accordance with the IOHA scheme: www.ioha.net, you can apply to the SSOH to have your certificate recognised.

    To submit an application for assessment of your basic training or for recognition of your certificate, please contact: david.vernez@unisante.ch.

    Become SSOH certified

    Occupational hygienists can be certified by the CCOH certification body in accordance with the IOHA standards and acquire the title ‘Occupational Hygienist SSOH’.

    In addition to the requirements for certification (recognised professional experience and passing the written certification examination), certified occupational hygienists must undertake to undergo continuing eduction in accordance with the continuing education regulations. They report on their continuing education activities on a certificate form. The report must be sent to the certification body every three years in order to renew the certification.

    The certification of SSOH occupational hygienists fully complies with the requirements of the Ordinance on the Suitability of Occupational Hygienists (EQalV). Occupational hygienists are therefore recognised as specialists for occupational safety in Switzerland.

    For more information about SSOH certification and how to proceed, please contact: david.vernez@unisante.ch.

    Validate your continuing education

    In addition to the basic training and based on the EQualV Art. 7 (national languages), occupational health and safety specialists (ASA specialists) are obliged to complete continuing education. The definition of appropriate continuing edaucation and its duration has been delegated to the SSOH for occupational hygienists (see Annex 2, FCOS Guideline No. 6508 – national languages only). The rules of the SSOH training regulations therefore apply to all occupational hygienists working in Switzerland, regardless of any certification or membership of the SSOH.

    Continuing education and its duration are defined in the continuing education regulations of the SSOH. The SSOH provides the following services on behalf of the FCOS:

    • It examines the continuing eduction documents submitted by an occupational hygienist;
    • It issues ASA occupational hygienists who have fulfilled the continuing education requirements with a corresponding certificate of continuing education (this service may be subject to a charge for persons who are not members of the SSOH);
    • It maintains a register of ASA specialists who have completed the continuing education. Publication of the data on the SSOH website in accordance with data protection regulations is voluntary.

    Certified occupational hygienists must provide evidence every three years that they have completed the required continuing eduction (see form below).

    Validate your continuing education

    To validate your continuing education, it is necessary to complete the form and return it so that it is recorded.
